CV Guide
What's Cytolytic Vaginosis, and who's most likely to get it?
CV happens when ‘good’ bacteria in your vagina — Lactobacillus — overgrow and make the environment too acidic. This dissolves protective cells, exposing the delicate vaginal wall and causing pain, itching, and discharge.
CV mostly affects women of reproductive age (15–45) because it’s driven by estrogen. It’s less common after menopause unless using hormone replacement therapy.
If you’re between 15–45 and can’t get rid of chronic discharge or irritation, CV could be the reason.
Which symptoms match CV?
Thick white discharge (odorless — no fishy smell)
Itching and burning that worsen before your period
Irritation during sex
Vaginal pH between 3.5–4.5
Lactobacillus overgrowth on smear or DNA test
How can I test for CV at home?
Checking your vaginal pH is an easy way to understand what’s going on with your vaginal health. You can find vaginal pH testing kits on Amazon or at most pharmacies. These kits usually come with pH paper strips and a color chart to compare your results.
💡 We recommend the Pelvana brand — it’s easier to read than cheaper ones, which can be hard to interpret.
Here’s How to Do It:
Prepare your materials.
You’ll need a Q-tip (cotton swab) and your pH paper strip.Collect your sample.
Gently insert the Q-tip about an inch into the vagina and hold it against the wall for about 5 seconds so it can absorb moisture.Test your sample.
Press the wet Q-tip onto the pH paper strip until the paper is fully damp.Read your result.
Wait 1–5 minutes for the color to develop, then compare it to the color chart included in your kit.✅ Be sure to compare it while the strip is still wet. Once it dries, the color may change and become inaccurate.
What Your Result Means:
Below 4.5: Too acidic — BV is unlikely, but Cytolytic Vaginosis (CV) may be possible.
Above 4.5: More alkaline — that’s more consistent with BV or another imbalance.
Next Step:
If your pH is below 4.5 and your symptoms include itching, burning, or discharge that hasn’t responded to yeast or BV treatments, you might have Cytolytic Vaginosis (CV).

Can I confirm CV with a lab test?
To confirm CV, you can order a vaginal microbiome test from Juno Bio.
If your results show over 95% Lactobacillus and your symptoms match CV, you likely have it.

What should I avoid if I have CV?
❌ Baking Soda
❌ Boric acid (makes pH more acidic)
❌ Antibiotics (wipe out good bacteria)
❌ Probiotics (can worsen Lactobacillus overgrowth)
❌ Douching or over-washing

Still Have Questions?
Is CV the same as a yeast infection?
Not exactly. While CV and yeast infections can cause similar symptoms — like discharge, itching, and burning — their causes are completely different.
A yeast infection happens when Candida overgrows.
CV happens when your good bacteria (Lactobacillus) overgrow and make the vagina too acidic.
Can I use NeuEve if I’m on birth control?
Yes. NeuEve is made from natural oils and vitamins, and it’s hormone-free. It’s safe to use alongside birth control pills, patches, or IUDs.
How many suppositories does it come with, and how do I use them?
Each pack includes 3 vaginal suppositories. For mild cases, using 1 suppository every 3 days might provide comfort.
For more persistent symptoms, 2-3 packs might be necessary.
How long until I feel relief?
Most women notice an improvement within 7–14 days of consistent use.
NeuEve CV Clear helps restore comfort naturally — gently balancing pH and calming discharge over time.
🌿 Everyone’s body heals at a different pace, but consistency is key. Most women report lasting comfort after the first full pack.
If NeuEve CV Clear doesn't provide the comfort you're looking for, please contact us at help@neueve.com about our Extra Strength version. This is specially formulated for more challenging cases and is priced the same as the regular CV Clear but tailored for those needing more focused support.
What can I expect while using the product?
It's common to notice white discharge after using the product. If you feel burning upon application, it may indicate sensitivity. To reduce this, try using half a suppository at a time.
Can I use NeuEve during my period?
We recommend waiting until after your period to use NeuEve suppositories.
During menstruation, blood flow can dilute the ingredients and flush the suppository out before it’s fully absorbed, which can make it less effective.
It’s best to pause for a few days and resume after your period ends — this helps your body get the full benefit of each suppository and keeps things cleaner and more comfortable.
💛 Skipping a few days won’t set back your progress — it just makes each application work better.
